Hope so!
They are actually doing 2 shows tonight!
I'm staying for both!
I'm SO not going to be able to play bass after this. |

I was able to attend both shows they did in Boston.
The first set was a bit rushed because they had a strict time limit, so Jeff didn't get to play some of his tunes and cut out nearly all his banter. However, he did play fantastically, as always.
Stu came out and rocked & funked things up with a nice set (He even played a bit of country music!) But alas, he didn't play Katahdin.
Billy, I don't think anybody can say anything about him! Just a big ball of bass playing energy!
Then the 3 of them jammed out on the funky castro hussle, followed by everybodys favorite: BIG BOTTOM.
The playing was just fantastic! I had a friend come who had never really heard any of them before and he was completely blown away. He had no idea you could do that kind of stuff on bass. (And like everybody else, he was very impressed with Jude & John). The biggest problem I had was my seat - it was located in direct line with a large pillar in the room. So I was able to see Jude and some of Jeff. That was a bit disappointing and puzzling why they'd put people there. Ahh well, I could hear them ayway.
Between sets I went out and said Hi to Jeff and Stu, but I didn't get to say Hi to Billy because I was procuring a ticket for my pal who came. Stu told me he'd definately play Katahdin in the 2nd set. I also talked to Bob, who is an unsung hero of the tour who was completely and utterly burned out. Who is he? He's the guy who drove the van, did the tour management, and deal with all the things the boys had issues with. This past tour was 6 weeks long, with only a couple days "off". So three cheers for Bob!
We had much better seats for the 2nd set. Jeff played a bit longer - and played some different tunes too. Poor Jude, he kept counting the tunes off MUCH fsater than normal. Heh. gotta love playing at warp speed.
Then Stu's 2nd set came up - which he played some different tunes - and included Katahdin, which he said was for me. Aww, I feel special! The problem? Mel is on his deathbed. Mel is Stu's red sparkle bass. it is the only bass Stu is able to "do that stuff" on. He has another he's trying to break in, but that hasn't finished yet. Mel kept cutting out and he'd have to smack the cord around. I guess the jack had come loose and some wires kept losing contact. He was pretty upset about it, but he plugged on!
Billy's set was mostly the same powerful set, except since Jeff & Stu weren't paying attention when they were supposed to come out for the encore, he played Shy Boy. I think Billy needs to play faster and in more interesting ways Wow. It was really great actually getting to see him play (I only saw a pillar the first set).
The encore was great - they did big bottom again, and then did crossroads with Jeff on vocals. Good times.
We headed out for hte meet & greet. Jeff was out there and I listened to him talk a little. Some of the berklee profs came out and he was all excited about that (they were former teachers of his). I waited a little bit for Stu & Billy to come out, but we opted to head out as it was very late and one of my friends was moving his mom in law at 7am, and another had a big medical test in the morning. (Plus the 45 minute drive home) so I didn't get to say bye (or hi) to them. Oh well, but since I'm the webmaster I'll just email them
Heh. The boys had a great time on tour and I believe they want to do it again someday. |

Thank you for your review Mr. BX3 Webmaster-man. I truly think this was a very historic tour and was fortunate to catch one of the shows.
I was hoping for one more leg of the tour, and a swing through California. I really hope they do more shows, but I'm not holding my breath. My wish list now is for a DVD, or a double CD. Maybe a picture book or something?
What happens with the site now? Will we get pictures and some write-ups by, or interviews with the guys?
If Bob (the Tour Manager?) reads the board, I'm glad he stuck it out and I hope he didn't have to put up with "brown M&M's" sort of stuff! _________________ "I'm not about to do a free-form jazz exploration in front of a festival crowd"

Two questions:
1. Now that the tour's over, any word on what Jeff, Stu, and Billy are doing next?
2. Were any of the shows recorded during this tour? Just seeing if there's any chance of a live album??? |

They are all going to take a nice long nap!
If you looked at the tour schedule you'd realize how tired they all are - they only had a few days off in the last 6 weeks! (And poor Bob pretty much got no days off!)
Stu was doing a couple clinics in Boston the next day. Then he is playing in SF at the WesFest benefit.
Jeff is going to spend time with his family and get back to working on his school.
Billy is. Well I have no idea. Probably he'll go do another tour with someone since that is what he does
I don't have word on an "official" recording. I know a couple of them were taped (audio and or video) but I don't know what will come of it. |
